The Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field
The section of the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex that comprises the home of the NJCU men's and women's soccer teams was dedicated as the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field in 1995.
Robert L. McNulty, who coached NJCU when it was known as Jersey City State College from 1966-77, was considered a building block of American soccer and one of the finest educators of the sport in the United States until his death in November 1992. McNulty was one of the 11 original “A” licensed coaches in the nation.
While soccer has two fields to utilize for games and practice, the Robert L. McNulty Field, comprised of the spacious outfield area of the baseball park, is the main soccer game facility.
This well-maintained natural grass facility adjacent to Newark Bay has bleacher seating for more than 500 fans, and the sideline can accomodate hundreds more who wish to bring lawn chairs, which is popular among Gothic Knight parents.
Plans are currently being reviewed to give the entire complex an impressive facelift, which would include a field turf soccer-only stadium at the site of the former football field.
