The Gothic Knights, playing a woman down much of the second half due to an injury and short bench, stayed in the game thanks to stellar efforts in net from
Lubonski and junior All-NJAC goalkeeper
BRITTANY HOFFMAN (McMurray, PA/Peters Township). Hoffman started the game and made three saves in a 45-minute first half stint.
Lubonski made eight saves in 60:13 of action, including six in the second half.
NJCU was playing its second consecutive double overtime game after tying College of Staten Island, 1-1, on September 11. It was OW's first-ever win against the Knights in five meetings.
The lone goal was scored with 4:47 remaining in the second overtime period as
JoAnna Kettell took a shot off an NJCU defender's clear attempt from 15 yards away towards the mid-left portion of the goal.
Lubonski attempted to tip a save away but the shot ricocheted off her gloves, the crossbar and then her back and caromed into the net. OW's
Caitlin Thomas made two saves in 105:13 to collect her second shutout victory of the season.
Kettell had a game-high eight shots (four on goal) while teammate
Edania Martinez matched her with eight shots (one on goal).
Stephanie Maybie had six shots (three SOG).
Freshman forward
JILLIAN PECINA (Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearley) led NJCU with four shots (two on goal); both shots on target came in regulation.
NJCU's next contest is its 2013 home opener and New Jersey Athletic Conference debut when it hosts William Paterson University on Saturday, September 21 at 1 p.m. at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
