NJCU, for games played thru October 13, is averaging 15.44 saves per game in nine games with 139 total stops this year while facing 326 shots. The Gothic Knights margin over the second place team nationally, Pine Manor College, widened during the week (14.70 saves per game).
While NJCU has given up its share of shots this season, two-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference junior goalkeeper
Brittany Hoffman (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) has done an admirable job stopping most of them. The New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for September 23—also the recipient of that week's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Defensive Player of the Week accolade—currently ranks No. 4 in the country in total saves with 118 and is 10th in the nation in saves per game at 13.11 per contest.
Hoffman has stopped at least 20 shots in a game four times this season—with a career-high 29 saves against No. 22 Rowan University on September 28 while limiting the high-powered Profs to just five goals against heavy pressure. She also has games of 21 saves against William Paterson University (September 21) and Richard Stockton (October 5) and 20 stops at Ramapo College (September 25) She has reached double figures in saves 17 times in her career and in the last five consecutive games.
Hoffman's 29 saves are the second most by an individual in Division III this season. She also ranks 12
th on the single-game saves list for her two 21 save performances.
