ROWAN TOO MUCH AS PROFS DOWN NJCU, 6-0

- Rowan's women's soccer team was too strong for NJCU on September 22.

Rowan University, the No. 9 ranked team in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division III South Atlantic Region, outshot NJCU 22-3 in the first half and scored six times in the period as the Profs handed New Jersey City University a 6-0 defeat on September 22 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer game. Rowan scored three times in a span of 1:48 in the ninth and 10th minutes to stake control of the game.
 
Rowan improves to 5-1 (2-0 NJAC), while snapping NJCU's winning streak at two games, as the Gothic Knights fall to 3-5-2 (1-2 NJAC). Rowan is 15-0 all-time in the series and finished with advantages of 34-6 in shots and 8-2 on corner kicks.
 
In defeat, sophomore goalkeeper BRITTANY HOFFMAN (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) collected 14 saves, reaching double digits in saves for the fifth time this season and 10th time in her career.
 
Rowan, winners of four straight games, has only allowed two goals all season and posted its fourth consecutive shutout. The Profs ran their consecutive scoreless minutes streak to 389:06.
 
Senior midfielder ANGELICA GLOVER (Union, NJ/Union Catholic) and senior forward BRIANNA TAYLOR (Linden, NJ/Linden) each had three shots for NJCU; all of Taylor's attempts were on goal.
 
Senior keeper Maria Dorris (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional) made four saves in 73:48 before Katina Anthony (Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddon Township) played the final 16:12 without needing to make a save.
 
Five different players scored for Rowan, with three players notching their first goals of the season. Senior defender Morgan Muracco (Washington Township, NJ/Paul VI) scored twice for the hosts while senior midfielder Michele Ercolano (Emerson, NJ/Paramus Catholic) added a goal and an assist. In all, 24 players saw action for the Profs.
 
Sophomore midfielder Jess Durnian (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) scored the eventual winner at the 8:03 mark of the first half with her first goal of the season before Ercolano assisted on Muracco's first goal of the game at the 9:10 juncture. Ercolano then scored her first goal of the season 41 seconds later (9:51) for a 3-0 lead.
 
Muracco's second tally of the game and fourth of the season off an assist from senior midfielder Nina Fragoso (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) extended the margin to 4-0 at 2:58. Senior midfielder Michelle Borghese (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) tallied her first goal of the season at the 32:06 mark on a breakaway assisted by sophomore defender Victoria Camera (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) before junior midfielder Dayna Sakalsky (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) capped the scoring with an unassisted strike at 38:28. Rowan was whistled for 11 offsides in the contest.
 
NJCU will next host Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday, September 26 at 4 p.m. at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
