CAMDEN, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University
led 1-0 at the half before Rutgers University-Camden tied it early in the 61st minute, and scored a golden goal winner just over four minutes into double overtime as the Scarlet Raptors upended NJCU, 2-1, in the 2012 New Jersey Athletic Conference and season finale for both schools on October 24 under the lights at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.

NJCU's 20th season of women's soccer ends with a 6-11-2 mark (1-8-0 NJAC) as the Knights dropped five of their final six games. Camden snapped a six-game losing streak to close the season with a 4-14-1 record overall (1-7-1 NJAC) and leapfrogged NJCU in the final conference standings. NJCU had its three-game winning streak against the Raptors snapped; R-C leads the all-time series, 10-3.

NJCU outshot the Raptors for the fourth straight season and the Knights fell despite outshooting the Raptors, 19-10, with a 9-5 edge in the first period, 8-4 in the second half, and 2-0 in the first overtime. The winning goal was Camden's only shot of the two overtimes and its first attempt since the 71:38 mark of the second half—a span of 33:32 between shots.

The shot in the 72nd minute was by junior midfielder Dawn Dixon (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional), and she was responsible for the winner at 104:10 of the second OT, scoring in a one-on-one breakaway against NJCU sophomore keeper BRITTANY HOFFMAN (McMurray, PA/Peters Township), off a feed from Camden junior forward Leighanna Milby (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional), who had earlier scored the game-tying goal.

NJCU was playing its fourth overtime game of the season and the Knights finished the year with a mark of 1-1-2 in extra time. It was the second consecutive year and the third time in program history (1995) that NJCU has played four overtimes in a season, and the Knights fall to 6-11-9 all-time in 26 overtime sessions.

Scarlet Raptor junior goalie Lauren West (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional) made eight saves for the hosts. Hoffman stopped two shots for NJCU.

NJCU's only goal came with 1:12 remaining in the first half as sophomore forward ISLEY PEREZ (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) took a square pass from senior midfielder BRIANNA TAYLOR (Linden, NJ/Linden) at the top of the box and she tucked her first goal of the season inside the left post at the 43:48 mark. The assist was Taylor's third of the season and she finished the year tied for the team lead in points with 21.

Milby, playing predominantly in the field for the first time this season after serving as the Scarlet Raptors' primary goalie the past two years, tied the game at 60:10 with her first career goal. Sophomore midfielder Rebecca Gougher (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) sent a long pass up the right wing and junior midfielder Sarah Kooistra (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional) dribbled into the corner, made a cut onto the endline and made a cross to the far left post, where Milby one-timed her shot inside the left post. The double assist was Gougher's first helper of the season and Kooistra's second.

NJCU had a late push, with four shots in the final 10 minutes, including three in the final 3:09, and nearly won it with just 10 seconds remaining before West made a spectacular diving save to her right to rob NJCU senior midfielder ANGELICA GLOVER (Union, NJ/Union Catholic) from scoring the winning goal.

Glover and Taylor had a pair of chances for NJCU in the 94th and 98th minutes of the first overtime that also were saved by West.

That led to double overtime and four minutes in, Milby picked up her first career assist, sending a feed to Dixon, who eluded Hoffman in a one-on-one break and tapped her game-winning goal into the net at 104:10 with her team-leading sixth goal of the season and third game winner.  Camden had been outscored 44-14 this season prior to the game.
