with care and safety of NJCU's student-athletes their top priority.

Student-athletes in all sports at New Jersey City University are provided with the best in medical and training services through the NJCU Sports Medicine department.

The head athletic trainer, aided by the assistant athletic trainer, is in charge of medical care for all NJCU student-athletes, working closely with the New Jersey Sports Medicine Institute. The sports medicine staff provides everything from ankle taping to rehabilitation following major surgery. Sports Medicine provides on-site staffing of all practices and games. They use the modern facilities on the lower level of the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center for evaluation and rehabilitation, and rely on the doctors at the New Jersey Sports Medicine Institute for consultation and direction in treating and repairing major injuries.

The JMAC training facility includes a whirlpool room, electric stimulation and ultrasound machines and hydrocollators.

NJCU has insurance coverage to protect all participants in intercollegiate athletics against accidental injury that occur in the play or official practice of their sport should they not have an existing family health insurance policy. The sports medicine office also arranges for teams to receive a complete musculo-skeletal physical exam each year prior to the start of the preseason for each sport.

Beginning in 2019-20, through a partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, Dr. Melissa Mascaro is NJCU's new team doctor and Dr. John Feldman is NJCU's new team orthopedist.
