Â
Hello student-athletes,Â
Â
As we move forward into our 2020-2021 season, your athletic trainers,
Karla Mejia and
Ashley Pais, require you to fulfill the following requests in order to be cleared medically and participate in your sport.Â
Â
We are working diligently towards a safe return to campus and in an effort to reassure student-athletes’ safety, the University has entered into an affiliation agreement with Diligent Urgent Care, LLC, a medical service delivery practice in NJ. This entity has been actively managing and treating COVID-19 patients since the onset of the pandemic. Diligent Urgent Care, LLC runs a robust telemedicine platform that will develop a single database for the University of all students, staff, and faculty members concerning medical health history, COVID-19 history, medications, allergies, and other pertinent information.Â
Â
This platform is part of a multidisciplinary effort to educate, monitor, and keep all members of the University community safe as we reopen our campus. The uniformity of such a platform will contribute to the proper management and safety of all students, staff, and faculty in a post-COVID environment.
Â
While the University cannot force its employees or students to use this platform, it is strongly encouraged. Using the telemedicine platformÂ
will not cost you anything. Both the telemedicine visit and the COVID test (either PCR or antibody) is 100% covered by your insurance or by a government grant if you do not have health insurance. There will be no Copay charged for you.Â
Â
Beginning in July, all fall student-athletes will be contacted by Diligent to conduct their telemedicine visit. Upon the conclusion of this visit, you will be prompted to schedule a PCR or antibody test that will be 100% covered by your insurance. This test should be completed between the week of July 15 – July 22.

For 2020-2021, we will be using our online medical documentation Sportsware. Step-by-step instructions can be found on the PDFs above for new students and returning students and will answer any questions regarding online registration and filling out the required documentation.Â

DO NOTÂ RE-REGISTER. If you have any issues signing in and cannot remember their password, please email Karla Mejia or Ashley Pais.

PHYSICALS
Time slots for sports teams will be sent out June 25.
YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND PHYSICALS WITHOUT COMPLETING YOUR ONLINE PAPERWORK BY JULY 25. IF YOU SHOW UP WITHOUT COMPLETION OF DOCUMENTS, YOU  WILL BE TURNED AWAY. Those papers filled out after July 25 will not be reviewed and they will not be reviewed on the day of a physical.
Â
Freshmen, juniors and transfers are REQUIRED to get a physical at NJCU.
- ANY athlete who did not go to our team doctors last year is REQUIRED to come to our team doctors this year. If you do not, you physical will be voided. Â
- Athletes who choose to go to their own physician (2nd and 4th year athletes who went to our team doctors their 1st and 3rd year) must use the physical sheet above. Even if you are cleared by your own physician, NJCU team physicians will be reviewing documentation and provide final clearance. Some student-athletes may not be cleared until proper documentation of preexisting injuries, conditions, and/or disorders is presented.
CONCUSSIONS
Concussion testing will be administered to freshmen, juniors, transfers, and athletes who had a concussion the year before.Â
All athletes involved in contact sportsÂ
MUSTÂ
take the test yearly.Â
Â
INSURANCE
New Jersey City University will be providing insurance coverage to all students, and will have the opportunity to opt in starting July 6. Athletes who already have existing insurance have the choice to opt-out by October 7, 2020. Please note, if you opt-out, your personal insurance will go through a verification process. If at any point your insurance is inactive, you will no longer be able to participate in team activities until active insurance is verified.Â
Â

Â
SICKLE CELL
Sickle Cell trait blood results are REQUIRED at NJCU. The test must say positive or negative to be accepted. We will only be accepting printed results
physically handed to athletic trainers. WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING SCREENSHOTS, EMAILS, TEXT MESSAGES OF PROOF OR TEMPORARY RESULTS. Athletes born in New Jersey can contact their healthcare provider for results since they were tested at birth. If you need suggestions on where to go, please contact the athletic training staff.

The athletic trainers will confirm clearance of all student-athletes. If an athlete is required by NJCU team doctors to hand in paperwork, they are not cleared to play until all documentation stating they are cleared to play is given to the athletic trainers.
