NJCU Athletics Hosted Jersey City Teen Mentoring Program

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The New Jersey City University athletics department recently continued its ongoing community outreach, partnering with Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Jersey City Department of Recreation as part of the Jersey City Recreation Teen Mentoring Initiative.

The goal of the program is to help uplift young girls that are dealing with self-esteem, bullying, peer pressure, and other relatable issues.

This free, six-week program launched in late February at the Currie Woods Community Center in Jersey City with the inaugural graduation ceremony hosted by NJCU at the John J. Moore Athletic and Fitness Center.

Tamika McReynolds of the Jersey City Department of Recreation oversaw the program. NJCU Director of Athletics Alice De Fazio and Danielle Beam, NJCU's Director of Camps and Community Recreation served as guest mentors during the length of the program.

The second phase of the program will begin on April 14.
