New Jersey City University men's golf team set a program record for low 36-hole team score as the Gothic Knights placed 11th overall at the season-opening St. Lawrence University Invitational, held September 5-6 at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
NJCU shot an opening-round 370 on the par-72, 6,679 yard course for an 11th place showing, and carded a 376 in round two for a two-day team total of 746 (+170). The Gothic Knights ended 11th overall in the field. Hamilton College easily won the tournament with a +19 36-hole score of 595—16 shots clear.
Freshman
Alexander Sill (Hurley, NY/Kingston) was 45th after shooting a +14 round of 86 on the opening day, but slipped to 49th place with another 86 carded in the second round. He was NJCU's top finisher with a 172 (+28).
Freshman
Bobby Williams (Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy Memorial) shot an opening-round 92 and finished at 190 for 36 holes (+26). Two-sport baseball/golf student-athlete
Joe Coutinho (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) made the biggest improvement from round one to two, shaving 25 strokes off his score.
Of Note:- NJCU was playing only its fourth two-round tournament in program history. The 746 team score easily broke the previous 36-hole team scoring record of 839 set during the 2014-15 Capital Athletic Conference championship.
- NJCU was playing its earliest season-opening rounds in school history.
