On Tuesday, July 9, the national teams from El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) both utilized the natural grass soccer facility at NJCU for two-hour morning practice sessions. This followed an intense 2-2 draw between the countries on July 8 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison in the opening game of the Group B stage.
Trinidad also practiced at NJCU on Saturday, July 6 in preparation for that opening game. Both nations moved onto Miami for the second game of the tournament following their training regimen at NJCU.
The group, which includes Haiti and Honduras, concludes opening round play tonight in Houston.
The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football Gold Cup tournament is a 12-team event contested every two years since being founded in 1991 and determines the regional champion of North America, Central American and the Caribbean. The United States has served as a host for every tournament.
Over the years, NJCU's well-maintained natural grass facility has become a popular practice and training destination for national and professional soccer teams in preparation for international events held in the United States and abroad. In addition to El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago, teams that have trained at NJCU include the United States U-17 Women's Soccer National Team, the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer, and national teams from Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras and Panama.
