PITMAN, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...For the second consecutive week, New Jersey City University freshman third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) has been selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Hitter of the Week. The honor is for week eight of the 2010 campaign.
Satz, the No. 2 hitter in the NJAC with a .402 season average, led NJCU with a .389 batting average (7-for-18) and a .421 on-base percentage in six games last week. She had at least one hit in four of the six games, with two runs and one double. Defensively, she was flawless at third base in 18 chances.
Against Kean University in Union, NJ on April 20, Satz was 2-for-4 in game two. On April 21 in a pair of tight non-conference road losses at FDU-Florham, Satz was 1-for-3 with a run in game one. In an eight-inning loss in game two, she batted 3-for-4 with a run and RBI. She also had one hit in a doubleheader against Richard Stockton College.
Through games of April 25, Satz leads NJCU in eight offensive categories—batting average (.402), hits (43), at bats (107), RBIs (26), doubles (9), total bases (55), slugging percentage (514) and fewest strikeouts (4). In 34 games and 34 starts, she is second on the team in runs scored (21), homeruns (1), and on-base percentage (.420). Additionally, she has a .966 fielding percentage with only four errors in 119 chances at the hot corner and is 4-for-4 in stolen base opportunities. Satz has had a hit in 25 of 34 games, reaching base in 27 contests.
Satz currently ranks second in the NJAC in batting average and is one of only two players league wide to be hitting .400 or better. Additionally, she leads the league in percentage advancing runners (.698), ranks second in average against right-handers (.398), tied for second in hits, third in percentage reaching as a leadoff batter (.600), fourth in average with runners on base (.410), tied for fifth in RBIs (with senior teammate TARA PERRUCCI (East Rutherford, NJ/Wallington)), tied for seventh in doubles and at bats, 10th in average with two outs (.370), 11th in average with RBI opportunities (.404), and 12th in on-base percentage.
