Alvarez on Vermazen:

Cali” is our 3rd kid from California this year.  A RHP who has a nasty breaking ball and good enough movement on his FB and change piece, to possibly land him in the starting rotation as he fights for a spot.  His ability to hold on runners is second to none and his bulldog personality on the mound makes him a great asset to our ball club.  He can help us either as a starter or a reliever. We are excited that Tom chose our school.

2009 Highlights: (2/21 at Farmingdale State College): Entered the game with two outs in the sixth after a FSC single...Tossed his first pitch as a collegiate pitcher, coercing a fielder's choice to end the inning...(3/6 vs. Milwaukee School of Engineering at the Russ Matt College Invitational):  Started his first collegiate game...In 4.2 innings he allowed four earned runs and 12 hits with a walk but received a no-decision...(3/10 vs. Drew University at the Russ Matt College Invitational): Earned his first career victory...In 5.0 innings, he allowed only three hits and one earned run with two strikeouts and two walks over 68 pitches...(3/13 vs. Thomas More College at the Russ Matt College Invitational): Tossed 3.0 innings of relief, allowing three hits and one unearned run...(3/28 vs. Richard Stockton College): Was splendid in long relief, and earned his second collegiate win while improving to 2-0 as he tossed 4.1 innings, allowing no earned runs (two overall) and five hits with a pair of strikeouts...(4/1 at College of Staten Island):  Pitched the ninth inning, allowing two hits and three runs with a strikeout and two walks...(4/6 at Kean University): Was perfect in relief, retiring all seven batters he faced in 2.1 innings of work...
