PITMAN, NJ…New Jersey City University junior right-hander JEFF KARCZEWSKI (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for week six of the 2010 season for games played through April 11. It is the first time in his two-year career for the Gothic Knights he has received the accolade.
On April 9, Karczewski improved to 3-0 on the mound by pitching the Gothic Knights to their biggest win of the season, a 7-6 win over William Paterson University in Jersey City.

In 8.0 innings, he allowed no earned runs and scattered seven singles—without allowing an extra base hit—striking out four against three walks. In solid control of his pitches, he did not throw a wild pitch nor hit a batter. The 6-foot-2 team ace left the game leading 7-2 in the ninth inning and his significance to the rotation was further demonstrated when the Pioneers scored four runs against the NJCU bullpen before leaving the bases loaded with the tying run 90 feet away.

For the season, Karczewski is 3-0 with a 3.82 ERA in six appearances and five starts. During that time he had thrown 33.0 innings, with 20 strikeouts and 17 walks. He has allowed just 14 earned runs (18 overall) and 37 hits. In his career, he is 6-4 with 58 strikeouts and 35 walks in 86.1 innings.

Karczewski
is the third NJCU player to receive a conference award this season. Junior outfielder KEN WITTE (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional) earned NJAC and ECAC Division III Metro Player of the Week accolades on March 29 (week four), later being named Honorable Mention NCBWA National Player of the Week. In week one (March 8), freshman right-hander JOSEPH MONAHAN (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) earned NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors.
