NEC BRACKET
SOMERSET, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...The New Jersey City University women's bowling team, the 2010 Northeast Conference regular season champions, have drawn the No. 1 overall seed in this weekend's NEC Championship Tournament, which will be held Saturday, March 20 and Sunday March 21 at Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, NJ. All matches will be best 4-of-7 Baker series on NCAA Pattern #5.
The Gothic Knights, in their first season as an associate member of the Division I Northeast Conference, enter the double-elimination tournament with a 71-39 record and 12-2 conference ledger, and ranked No. 8 in the country among Division I, II and III institutions.
In the first round, NJCU will face Long Island University, the #8 seed, at 9:35 a.m. on March 20. If NJCU, which is 3-0 against the Blackbirds this season, wins in the opening round, the Knights will advance to meet the winner of #4 seeded Adelphi University and #5 Fairleigh Dickinson University at 11:10 a.m. Round three is at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday.
If NJCU advances to Sunday's competition, it will compete in round four beginning at 10:35 a.m. Round five, if necessary, begins at 12:25 p.m. The conference championship final is slated for a 2 p.m. first throw.
On the other half of the bracket, #3 seeded St. Francis College (NY) meets #6 Sacred Heart University while #2 seeded Kutztown University challenges No. 7 Saint Peter's College. Kutztown was the 2009 NEC regular season title before FDU claimed the NEC Tournament crown.
NJCU, which went 7-0 at the NEC Spring Meet on February 13 after a 5-2 showing at the Fall event on November 14, only lost to Adelphi and Kutztown during the 14-match regular season schedule, finishing three games ahead of second-place Kutztown in the standings.
Parkway Lanes is located at 200 US Highway 45 in Elmwood Park, NJ. All NEC and NJCU students with a school identification will be admitted free. All others will be charged admission. Ticket prices are $10 per day for adults or $15 for a two-day pass, and $5 per day for individuals 65 and older and children ages 11-18. Children 10 years of age and under will be admitted free.
