The New Jersey City University women's bowling team opened the final tournament of the regular season on Friday by placing sixth of 20 teams while posting a 4-2 match play record, with wins over two Top 10 opponents as the #8 ranked Gothic Knights competed on the first of three days at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University at the Smyrna Bowling Center

NJCU, currently ranked No. 8 nationally among Division I, II and III institutions, defeated #3 Fairleigh Dickinson University (1005-928), #7 Arkansas State University (982-920), #11 St. Francis College (915-791) and Winston-Salem State University (825-689), but lost to #4 University of Nebraska (971-836) and #10 Valparaiso University by six pins, 839-833.

NJCU 10th-year head coach FRANK PARISI, the chair of the NCAA National Collegiate Bowling Committee, said “they found the will and the energy to turn it up. They made the adjustment that [Assistant] Coach [Rusty] Thomsen gave them and they responded. It basically started halfway through the Winston-Salem match and carried through the end of the day.”
