NJCU’S WALIK ALBRIGHT IS FINAL NJAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK OF 2009-10

- Walik Albright capped his rookie campaign with 236 points and two NJAC Rookie of the Week awards.

JERSEY CITY, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...New Jersey City University freshman small forward WALIK ALBRIGHT (Jersey City, NJ/Create Charter) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. His award is for week 15 of the 2009-10 men's basketball campaign, and is the final award of the season.
 
Albright, who also earned the honor in week 11 on February 8, shot 6-of-12 and finished with 15 points and two steals, with 10 second half points in NJCU's 94-72 loss to New York University in the ECAC Quarterfinals on March 3—the program's 27th appearance in a post-season tournament in the last 28 years.
 
In all, an NJCU player earned the league's Rookie of the Week in six of a possible 15 weeks. In addition to Albright, freshman power forward ISAIAH JOHNSON (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus), the 2009-10 NJAC Rookie of the Year, received the distinction four times—December 14 (week four), January 11 and 18 (weeks seven and eight) and February 15 (week 12).
 
Albright finished his rookie campaign averaging 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.6 blocks per game, while shooting .421 from the field (85-202), .277 from three-point distance (13-47) and .457 from the line (53-116). In 26 games, including 23 starts, he played 609 minutes, and totaled 236 points, 82 rebounds (26 offensive, 56 defensive), 45 assists, 34 steals and 15 blocks, while playing anywhere from point guard to power forward on the floor.
 
In the final NJAC statistical leaders, he ranked 19th in steals, 20th in blocks, 21st in assists, 23rd in free throw percentage, 24th in field goal percentage, and 28th in scoring.
