PITMAN, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...New Jersey City University freshman power forward LINDIA FISCHER (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career after  she averaged a double-double of 13.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Gothic Knights. The award is for week nine of the 2009-10 season.

Fischer is the second NJCU newcomer to win the award this season. Freshman point guard LATIFAH JOHNSON (Newark, NJ/University) claimed the honor in week seven.

In two games, the 5-foot-7 freshman tallied 26 points and 26 caroms, shooting an astounding 57.9 percent from the field on 11-of-19. The highlight of last week for Fischer was a 20-point, 20-rebound performance in a road win at Rutgers University-Camden.

In NJCU’s 77-71 NJAC win at Rutgers-Camden on January 16, Fischer became the first NJCU women’s basketball player in more than 13 years with at least 20 rebounds and 20 points in the same game, and the Gothic Knights posted their highest team field goal percentage in almost two seasons. NJCU never trailed in the game and led by as many as 18 points.

Fischer finished with game and career highs of 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 20 rebounds (nine offensive, 11 defensive) with three steals in 29 minutes before fouling out. She became the first NJCU player to record a 20-20 game since Alexis Nelson had 28 points and 26 rebounds at Richard Stockton College on November 27, 1996. The first half truly belonged to Fischer who had 13 points (5-8 FG) and 11 rebounds in 13 minutes. She had a layup with 4:28 left for a five-point lead, extending it to six with a later free throw.

Fischer also had six points (3-7 FG) and six rebounds in 20 minutes in a 71-54 loss to Montclair State University on January 13.

In the first 14 games of the season, she has made 13 starts, chalking up 115 rebounds (45 offensive, 70 defensive), 78 points, 16 steals, six assist and five blocks. She is averaging 8.2 rebounds, 5.6 points, 1.1 steals, 0.4 blocks and 0.4 assists per game while shooting .361 from the field (30-83) and .581 from the line (18-31). She made 13-of-15 from the stripe to start the year.

Fischer has notched two double-doubles and six double-digit rebounding efforts, including three games with at least 15 caroms.

One of the most consistent rebounders in the NJAC, she ranks fifth in the league in total rebounds and defensive rebounding (5.13 per game) and eighth in offensive rebounding (3.13 per game). She is also tied for 27th in blocks.
