PITMAN, NJ…New Jersey City University sophomore second baseman
DANIELLE DELFINO (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) has been named to the 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Conference Team for the second consecutive year.

Delfino becomes the first NJCU player named All-NJAC in consecutive years as a freshman and sophomore since
Bianca Quimpo, the younger sister of head coach
Bridgette Quimpo, earned Second-Team All-NJAC honors—also at second base—in 2001 and 2002.
“D.D. did an excellent job for us again this season,” said Quimpo, in her sixth season at the helm of the Gothic Knights. “You can't teach speed. Offensively, her ability to get on base has everything to do with her speed. She pressures the defense anytime she is up to bat, and when she gets on, she's a threat. Defensively, our bunt defense has been a success this season and a lot of it had to do with her. She's been so steady for us at second.”
Delfino finished her second collegiate season with an overall batting average of .333, going 26-for-111 with 26 runs and 25 stolen bases in 29 attempts while hitting as NJCU's leadoff hitter in 22 of 38 games and in the #2 slot in 14 other games. She added six RBIs and two doubles, and drew 14 walks while striking out only 13 times for a .408 on-base percentage. She provided seven sacrifice hits. Delfino led NJCU with 10 multiple hit games and had a team season-high nine-game hitting streak.
Delfino was NJCU's only player to hit above. 277 for the year and led the club in hits, steals, and runs.
Defensively, Delfino was sure-handed at second base, making only three errors in 138 chances for a .978 fielding percentage. She started all 38 games for NJCU as the Gothic Knights were 16-22 overall and 5-13 in the difficult NJAC.
Overall as of April 30, she ranked first in steal attempts, second in total steals and steals per game (0.66), seventh in batting average with runners on base (.409) and in percentage advancing runners (.615), tied for eighth in sacrifice hits and tied for 11th in runs.
In NJAC games—the 18 contests coaches considered when voting—Delfino had a .314 average (16-51) with five runs and two doubles, and a .375 on-base percentage. She stole six times in nine tries. Defensively, she had a .985 fielding percentage with only one error in 68 chances—the fourth best fielding in the conference, and tops among all second baseman.
In league games, Delfino ranked second with a .462 batting average with runners on base and had a .667 percentage in advancing runners, and was tied for third in steal attempts and tied for sixth in steals.

She had 58 runs, 56 steals in 66 attempts, nine doubles, three triples, one homerun and 22 RBIs, with 106 total bases, 22 walks and a .407 on base percentage. Defensively, she had a career .979 fielding percentage with only six errors in 282 chances She ranks second in school history in career stolen bases—second only to 89 by Kristy Zielinski (1997-00). Delfino is third in school history in fielding percentage, fourth in batting average, tied for 14th in hits, 15th in total bases and tied for 16th in total runs scored—all with two years remaining.
