PART 1: Allow Me to Introduce Myself
1 outta 2 ain't bad. So we split the first two games of the season with Farmingdale State. They were both tough, hard-fought games that could have gone either way. We pulled out the first game with a stellar pitching performance from Steve Montalbano, and some timely hitting. In the second game, we again had good pitching, but we just couldn't quite get the clutch hit when we really needed it. All things considered, that's not a bad start since we were playing a team that won their conference title last year.
The preparation for the game was interesting, though. Our game started at 12 o'clock, but I was waking up at 6:30 in the morning so I could eat before getting to the NJCU clubhouse by 7:20 so we could leave on the bus at 8 a.m. This may be standard for college baseball players, but for me it was a trip, no pun intended. We went on the bus, watched a movie, and ate food. That's a little different than all piling in the coach's car and caravanning to the game. Trust me—I like the bus a lot better.
In case you're wondering, yes I am going to mention the weather. Yea, yea I know I'm from San Diego, but if you were at that game you would have been cold. When I was out in the field I wore Under Armour, a shirt, and my jersey. Then on the bottom I wore my sliding shorts, leg Under Armour (I didn't know that existed), and of course, my pants. All this Under Armour really was for show because I was freezing anytime I stood still for more than a couple minutes. I know people from New Jersey will say that it's going to get colder and windier, but I don't want to hear it. I've had enough of this cold weather; let's go to Florida!
The team is headed to Florida on Thursday, March 5. We will be playing 10 games over there, and hopefully we will return to Jersey with an 11-1 record.
