JERSEY CITY, NJ…The
New Jersey City University athletics department has announced its 11-member 2008-09 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The 2008-09 committee will be chaired by sophomore men's soccer player
CHRISTIAN MARIN (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley), who was elected to that position by his peers in his second year as an SAAC representative.
Freshman women's basketball player
PATIENCE BROWN (Plainfield, NJ/Plainfield/UCVT) was elected Vice Chairperson, while sophomore
TASHEDAH GREEN (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) of the women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field program will be the SAAC Secretary. NJCU men's basketball coach
MARC BROWN (West Orange, NJ) is the SAAC Advisor.
The SAAC, nicknamed “The Knights of the Round Table” at NJCU, is an NCAA-mandated group at all Division I, II and III colleges and universities, comprised of student-athletes who represent their athletic programs to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The committee is composed of one representative from each varsity sport.
The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses. Each NCAA Division has its own national SAAC, and NCAA legislation mandates that all member institutions have SAACs on their respective campuses.
The mission of the NJCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to improve communication between the student-athlete and the athletic department administration; to address issues relevant to the general welfare and interests of the student-athlete; to discuss matters involving the overall intercollegiate athletic program; to promote athletics on campus; and to organize and conduct community service programs that enhance the University's community outreach efforts.
