JERSEY CITY, NJ…For half a decade, former New Jersey City University baseball standout Jonathan Thomas, `04has continued his baseball career on the professional ranks. Now, one of the greats in Gothic Knight history is coming home. Thomas has been appointed as the 10th head baseball coach in the 63-year history of the program.

JERSEY CITY, NJ…New Jersey City University freshman first baseman/outfielder JOE STEINBERGER (San Diego, CA/San Diego) has hit his fifth homerun of the season, but his latest one has nothing to do with baseball. On April 30 at NJCU’s annual ‘Celebration of Journalism’ banquet, Steinberger became the first Gothic Knight student-athlete to be awarded the distinguished Peter Weiss Journalism Scholarship.

AUGUSTA, NJ…The sun set on the 2009 baseball season…literally. New Jersey City University could not make a 9-0 lead hold up, but showed the resilient offense that has carried it all season long as the Gothic Knights scored three times in the top of the ninth inning and forced a darkness-induced 18-18 tie with Centenary College, in a non-conference season finale played on Monday at Skylands Park.

CAMDEN, NJ…Senior center fielder MARK HOYER (Irvine, CA/Woodbridge (CA) became the 29th player in New Jersey City University history to join the 100-hit club and the Gothic Knights jumped out to a 9-3 lead in game one, only to commit nine errors as Rutgers University-Camden rallied for a 16-11 win over the Knights in game one of a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader on late Saturday night at Campbell’s Field. In game two, sophomore shortstop TOM BURKE (Edison, NJ/Immaculata) drove in four runs, including a game-winning three-run homer in the top of the eighth as NJCU rallied to claim a 7-4 victory in game two of the twinbill. It was the final NJAC games of the year for both teams.

Bowling, 3 Final Fours
The NJCU Women's Bowling teams has been to the National Collegiate Final Four three times in the first six years of the championship's history. NJCU appeared in 2004, 2006, and 2008, finishing 3rd in 2004 and 2008. NJCU also was fifth in 2005 and 2009.
Men's Basketball NJAC titles
NJCU has won a record 11 New Jersey Athletic Conference championships in men's basketball. Rowan has won 10 and William Paterson 9.

Current NJCU Athletics Director Alice De Fazio was runner-up for the 1980 Wade Trophy as the top player in women's collegiate basketball?
Women's Volleyball, 2005 Champions

When the NJCU Women's Volleyball team won the 2005 New Jersey Athletic Conference championship, they became the first Gothic Knight team to win an NJAC women's title.
